Induction

We are keen to get to know all our students as individuals and the induction of new students is carefully arranged to promote this. All new students and their parents meet with a senior member of staff, prior to admission, to discuss individual requirements and to provide an opportunity for information to be exchanged on a one-to-one basis.

Every effort is made to ensure that the Year 8 students' transition from primary school to grammar school is straight forward and enjoyable. In June, the Red High Parents and Friends invites Year 8 students and their families to a 'Welcome to the Red High' BBQ, where they have an opportunity to get to know their classmates and teachers.

Year 8 students have the school to themselves on their first day which they spend with their Form Teacher and senior students who act as mentors throughout much of the school year. Students participate in ice-breaking and team-building activities to ensure everyone has the opportunity to familiarise himself with his new surroundings and can begin to feel part of the community of St. Patrick’s.

The Year 8 Mass and Induction evening in October welcomes Year 8 students and their families to the Red High family and provides an opportunity for parents to meet the staff and other parents.

Similar care and vigilance is taken at the beginning of Year 13 year to ensure that students at this stage of their education, including those transferring from other schools, are guided, advised and supported as they embark on A level studies.
