Welcome to the Library

The school library is found on the first floor of the school and is managed by Mrs G McCaul with the assistance of Mrs J Averell. Its two main aims are to promote reading for enjoyment and to support all aspects of study. The Library offers a comfortable environment where pupils may read, study and use the IT facilities. It is open daily from 8.00, each break and lunch time, and stays open until 5.00 Monday to Thursday and closes at 4:00 on a Friday.

The range of material available in the library is extensive and varied with stock updated throughout the year. You will find the fiction separated into Junior and Senior fiction with the classics of children and adult literature alongside modern publications and new releases. The non-fiction collection covers both academic and recreational topics.

Every junior class is timetabled for Reading for Pleasure. This is not viewed as an academic subject but a period in the middle of a busy week where pupils are encouraged to read for enjoyment.  Senior pupils are encouraged to become independent learners and use the library for study, research and make use of the IT facilities.

Every year the library celebrates World Book Day which generates great enthusiasm from the students who participate. Last year we had a challenge to come up with the ‘Craziest, Wackiest most Ridiculous excuse for an overdue book’. The excuses were very creative to say the least!  This year will be no exception with more exciting events planned.

That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.
