DARREN SWAIL: HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

DAMIAN BRENNAN: FULL TIME

DECLAN MORGAN: PART TIME

Physical education is an integral subject of the Creative and Expressive Studies department. There are two full time specialist teachers at KS3 and KS4 and one part time teacher at KS3. Two part-time teachers assist with Lower and Upper Sixth classes.

Students in St Patrick's are allocated three 30/35 minute periods at KS3 and two 30/35 minute periods at KS4 for PE each week. A new PE Uniform was introduced in 07/08 which can be purchased in school and used for both school PE lessons and extra–curricular activities.

There is a comprehensive and varied programme of activities offered to all our students that are in line with the national curriculum. These activities are designed and delivered in an enthusiastic manner using a range of teaching styles. All students are encouraged to participate and lessons are designed to give all students the opportunity to take part at their own level.

The PE teachers are always looking to introduce new activities to broaden the experience opportunities of their students. This is a welcoming subject that the students look forward to with eagerness. There is a very high rate of participation throughout the school.

Health related education is keenly promoted and the students look forward to the various activities in this topic.

There is a very extensive extra – curricular programme in St Patrick's Grammar school.

The school participates in many competitions that include Gaelic, Hurling, Soccer, Swimming, Golf, Cross-country,Tennis, Athletics and Chess.

There is an annual Sports Day held in the school and this is designed in divisions so that students can compete at a level that suits their individual ability. This is a very popular day in the school calendar.

The school has two large grass pitches and an internal school hall. We also have use of the De La Salle Sports Hall for various activities. There have been four outdoor basket ball courts constructed recently in the school. Some additional equipment has just been added to the schools Fitness Room to facilitate wet weather lessons.

St Patricks GS  has enjoyed success in many competitions in Ulster Colleges Gaelic Football and Hurling and has a proud tradition which the PE Department is keen to build on.
